Bangladesh - A Brief Insight

I was born in Bangladesh, a small country in the Indian Subcontinent. It has a population of over 120 million densed only in an area of 144 thousand square km. Bangladesh is well known for the natural disasters it suffers each year due to rising levels of flood waters that costs thousands of lives and homeless people. The floods arise due to its low altitude and the rivers that flow to the Bay of Bengal. These mighty rivers that intersect the country make Bangladesh the largest delta of the world.

Although it has to fight through nature and to feeds its huge population, I am proud that Bangladesh has done quite well in the past years since its independence from Pakistan in 1971. The economy has considerably grown, and there is increasing number of both national and foreign investors in several industry sectors.

Capital Dhaka

I lived in the big capital city Dhaka. 'Big', I call it - not for its size but for the extortionate number of people who live there. Even though, Dhaka still had a place reserved for me and I always felt part of it. You can do absolutely everything in Dhaka, it is becoming a major city in the subcontinent. There are huge supermarkets, a number of large well-known eminent universities including Dhaka University, which used to be called the 'Oxford of the East'. Starting from large financial institutions and industries and factories, Dhaka has it all.

Places to visit

Bangladesh is well known and famous for its Royal Bengal Tigers in the tropical forest 'Sunderbans' in the south, and for its largest sea-beach in the world, Cox's Bazar also in the south by the Bay of Bengal. These are the two main places that one must visit in Bangladesh. There are also a number of other great historical places and museums in cities like Sylthet, Comilla and Rajshahi.
